March 18, 2017 - Phil Dixon Captures First Win of Season in Sports Mod at Battleground Speedway
On Saturday night competing in both the Modified and Sports Mod divisions, Phil Dixon made the trip to Battleground Speedway (Highlands, Texas). In a field of 21 cars for the Touring Outlaw Modified Series sanctioned program, Dixon started the night off by posting a heat race win which locked him into the 8th-starting spot for the feature. Wheeling his way to the front in the opening laps, Dixon had his sights set on the leader by the second lap. After making a pass for the lead and losing it to a caution flag, Dixon suffered a broken right-front shock which ended up popping his tire and ended his night abruptly.

In the Sports Mod division, Phil posted a 2nd place finish in his heat to lock his spot into the show. Making a last lap pass for the lead, Phil Dixon captured his first victory of the season. (Ron Skinner photo)

On Thursday night, Phil returned to action at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). With 39 entries in action a 4th-place finish in his heat race relegated Dixon to a B-Main. With only the top Top-5 finishers transferring to the finale, Phil fell just short of the mark with a 7th-place finish as his night came to an early end.

Friday evening found Phil looking for better luck as he entered the $3,000-to-win, USMTS event at Ark-La-Tex Speedway. A 5th-place finish in his heat race sent Dixon to the B-main fro the second-straight night. Crossing the line in 6th in the consolation race, Phil came up one spot short of a transfer to the main event.

Saturday night brought the three-day USMTS swing at Ark-La-Tex Speedway to a close. Phil would finally battle his way into the finale, and would retire to a 23rd-place finish on the 21st lap of the 50-lap affair.
